Brother Cirillo's Obituary

Loving Family Man

Francis “Frank” E. Cirillo III, age 55, passed away unexpectedly, on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at his home. He was the devoted husband of Milena (Crudele) Cirillo.

Mr. Cirillo was born on April 30, 1960, in Waterbury, son of Michelena (Fappiano) Cirillo and the late Francis “Frank” E. Cirillo. He was a graduate of Wilby High School. He was a proud U.S. Navy Cold War Veteran and served on the USS Ranger CV-61 and was honored for his service in 2014 by the Waterbury Veteran’s Committee.

He began his career in 1984 at Northeast Utilities and was installed as a full time union official in March 2004. He, most recently, was the Business Manager/Financial Secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 420 in Waterbury. He sat on the board of directors for the CT AFL-CIO, was on the AFL-CIO health and safety committee and was a delegate for the Western CT Central Labor Council. Frank became the chairman of Local 420’s COPE fund in 2004, and as of October 2010 was able to donate $148,000 to International President Ed Hill’s Cope Fund. He served on the board of directors for the Western CT Central Labor Council from 2000 to 2003. He has also served as Chairman of the New England Utility Council from 2007 to 2010. He served as recording secretary for IBEW Local 420 from 1999-2002, president from 2002 to 2004 and from 2004 to 2011 as assistant business manager.

He was a past chairman of the New England Utility Council and in 2013 was awarded the Paul A. Loughran Memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership. Also in 2013, Frank was appointed to the Good Jobs Liaison Commissioner position by the Waterbury Board of Alderman and was an elected member of the Waterbury Democratic Town Committee.

Frank was proud to be a member of the American Italian Civic Club, loved being with his family, friends, his pets Guiseppina and Primo at his home, and enjoyed Misquamicut Beach.

In addition to Michelena, his mother and Milena, his loving wife of 31 years, Frank is survived by his daughters, Sylvia Cirillo and her fiancé Anthony Olivieri of Middletown and Juliana Cirillo of Queens; his sister Crisannda Spinner of Harrison, NY; his nephew Anthony Spinner of Harris NY. He also leaves his aunt Marie Suchocki of Worcester, MA; his mother-in-law Maria Crudele of Middlebury, three sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law and their families as well as many additional nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends.

The Funeral will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 9:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to St. Michael’s Church for a Mass at 10:00am. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4:00-8:00pm.
